Change Is Good...

This builder carpet has been in our master bedroom since we moved in nine years ago. When we moved in, it was already fifteen months old. Ten year old builder's carpet = gotta go.

I painted our bedroom and bathroom walls last summer, and then made the new quilt for our bed last fall, so all that was left was to get rid of that crummy flooring.

Handsome and I decided now was the time for a change, so we chose the new flooring and got the ball rolling.
Last Friday was the big day. The installers arrived around noon and cleared out the furniture (which we really appreciated).
Six hours later, our new floor was finished. The furniture was moved back into place (with a few changes) and we slept in our "new" room that night.
We woke up Saturday morning with the sun streaming in our windows, and shining off our new floors. Dog paws are a little noisier now, but we're thoroughly loving the new look.
I can't help but smile every time I look at them. We did the dining room, too, but I'll save those photos for later. So, tell me what you think. Do you think it's an improvement, too, or did you like the carpet better? (You can always click on my photos to enlarge them for a closer look.)

  5. Hey sweetie! LOVE the new floors. We did the same thing... out with the carpet in with wood floors. LOVE THEM! And I think it helps the allergies so much. As for the puppies... it slows them down(because the soon learn they will fall on their keesters if they run on them)& as for the noise... at least you know where those suckers are. :) Ya gotta look for the bright spots. Maybe you should make them little quilted booties with grippers. STAY WARM!

  8. Hi Donna,

Wood floors are so much better, and in your climate, probably better suited. I do like carpet, too, it has it's merits. Have a lovely day!

  10. Love the new look! The important thing is that you do, too!
We previously lived in an older home with hardwoods throughout. Our current home has carpet in the bedroosm. I never thought I would miss the wood in the bedroom, but I do.

  12. Gorgeous floors! Don't you just love the feel of them under your toes? Since my hubby is a Master Pergo installer, I'm partial to hard surface flooring. Our house was totally carpeted, even the bathrooms! What were they thinking? Floors are cooler in the Florida heat- just ask Bryn and Maui. So when do we get to see the diningroom?

  13. When I was a litle girl we were living in an old house with wood floors through out most of the house. Carpets were the upgrade in the new homes, but I could not understand why people wanted to completely cover up the floors - of course the new homes had plywood sheets under them. I have always prefered wood floor with rugs, so I am glad that over the years they are the "new rage" again.

Your room is beautiful and the
only problem you might have is that it is inviting also. The colors are bright yet soft.

Why does it remind me of New Orleans?

I looked at a photo of this quilt in your "quilt project" side bar. Such detail, so much work, so beautiful.

  24. Hi Donna, I love the hardwood floor look, but then I am partial to hardwood floors. I have them in three bedrooms. I finally got dug out of the snow last night so that they could come and get me this morning. It is the first that I have worked this week. I had to do statements. I am going to drive tomorrow. They have cleaned me a place at work to park my car. I see you are getting rain, I hope you don't get the freezing rain. Have a great day. Your Missouri Friend.

  26. Wow! Your floors are gorgeous. I am contemplating taking out the carpet downstairs and having wood (or fake wood) floors put down. I think my upstairs will have to stay carpet for now. Really nice color too!
