Stitch By Stitch...

I'm almost past the little birds! I made some good progress yesterday, and will be at it again today. I think it's safe to say, "My Mojo is back!" I'm finally able to sit for more than a little while, and I'm not nodding off while I try to choose my next color.

I think I've told you that I'm juggling about seven colors on the fencing, so I alternate stitching a darker or a lighter base for a section, and then fill it in with the other colors. Even looking at my photos - which always seem to reveal any errors or "whoopsies" - I'm happy with the way it's working out, with the possible exception of the dark at the bottom of the fencing. I may take some of that out, as I like the intermittent dark color that I've done on the end of the board (under the adult bluebird) more than the solid dark edge I have now.

We finally got rain late day, so it really was a perfect day to sit at my frame in front of the dining room windows. I watched a squirrel looking for hickory nuts in our yard while I stitched, and that was nice, too.

I have my last physical therapy session on Thursday, so I'm also working on range of motion while I'm sitting. While I'm still not bending back to where I was pre-op, I'm happy to say it no longer hurts. If I do too much, it swells a bit, and then I ice it, but that's only when I've been standing (or sitting) for hours at a time. The right knee is still giving me grief, but not like it was, so perhaps I'll be more impressive on my final visit with Jenna (for now).

Handsome has physical therapy now for a bone spur in his arthritic back. Thankfully, it isn't beating him up like it did when I first came home from the hospital, but I think between Jenna and Tanner (the other therapist he'll be seeing), they'll be able to help him find some relief. It's also a great way for me to - through him - keep in touch with Jenna. It will certainly make it easier to say "goodbye for now" when our last session comes to a close.

For now, I'm going to concentrate on doing my daily exercises and working on my bluebirds. I'll always show you when I've made some progress on the embroidery. As of September, I've officially been working on this project for a year. It's time to get it wrapped up. I'll share a few fabric color choices for finishing it as a wall hanging next.

  1. The whole piece is looking great.
We had a little bit of rain, I notice the trees aren't really turning, it's been so dry.
I hope you & Handsome get rid of all your pain soon.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
Our farming neighbor to the north harvested the soy beans off the field last weekend, prepped the field again and planted rye grass, just in time for the rain to water it in afterward. I'm telling you, he really has a talent for timing! Our leaves are beginning to turn, and Handsome and I already feel better. It's amazing what a bit of rest can do, isn't it?
      Have a great day!

  2. It sounds like a lovely fall day... watching nature and stitching. I'm loving the progress! Sigh...the things we took for granted in our youth... and now all the work it takes us to get body parts to cooperate and not constantly remind us that they exist. Hope PT is as beneficial to Handsome as it has been for you! Although you will be missing Jenna's assistance, it really is a big accomplishment that you have wrapped up going to PT for this knee! Good job!!

    1. Hi Lois:
It really was. We had sunshine yesterday, so it was a perfect day to wash windows and get ready for the winter. (Oh, that again!) We really take youth for granted. When Handsome and I get out of our vehicle, the first thing we do is stand up straight and make sure everything is working before we start walking. I'm grateful for all Jenna did for me, and I know she's helping Handsome. He's already feeling better. I just have to remind him to take it easy.
      Have a great day!

  3. Oh those birds are so life like. You have made so much progress.
And nice to see that mojo is back after some needed time away.
We are expecting some much needed rain overnight into Wednesday morning.

    1. Hi Shirley:
I'm so happy with how the birds turned out, and I'll be REALLY happy when this fencing is done. Whew! It's kind of intense. We had one night of light rain and we're back to sunshine now. Our neighbor's got a new roof yesterday, and we cleaned our windows. It's nice to see through them again after removing dog and cat "schnoz". lol I hope you get your rain, too. I think we're all a little short on the wet stuff this year.
      Have a great day!

  4. You are progressing by leaps and bounds (well, better be soft hops, just to be safe!) on your fence post. Hard to believe you've been working on it for that long.
Glad your Handsome is getting some relief and hopefully that will continue for him. I know what you mean about careful stretching when you get out of the car. We (really it was all me because the RC doesn't drive any longer) just got home yesterday from a couple days spent with our family....over a 5 hour drive each way...so we certainly needed to stretch.
