Kitchen Time...

Cranberry Jalapeño Jam

I was gifted the last of a friend's small green bell and jalapeño peppers, so I started my day making cranberry jalapeño jam. It only had to process in the water bath for ten minutes, so all the jars were on the counter (and all the lids popped) before I even began baking.

Farmhouse sandwich bread, Asiago cheese bread and hamburger buns

I cleaned up the pans and utensils from making jam, and then turned my attention to baking for the rest of the day. By dinnertime, there were loaves of farmhouse sandwich bread, a loaf of cheese bread, and lots of hamburger buns.

I didn't stay up late after dinner. I was "good tired". No discomfort in my legs, but I was definitely tired. I'd say it was a productive and worthwhile day.

    1. Hi Lois:
Amen to that! I'm finding that I'm actually a bit more uncomfortable when I sit to stitch. I have to remind myself to get up and move around more than I do. A more comfortable needlework chair wouldn't hurt either. I guess I'll add that to my list!

    1. Hi Marilyn:
Thanks, dear. The jam has just a bit of a kick to it, and is really tasty served over goat or cream cheese. Asiago is my favorite, too. I love making toast with it in the morning. I'm really thinking I'm over the hump regarding my legs. I'm pretty happy about that!

  3. Sherryofcreateology: A good tired for certain. Your kitchen is a marvel of activity when you are in it canning and baking. You are the perfect Mistress of Hickory Hill Farmhouse!

    1. Hi Sherry:
It is a good tired. I sleep like a log at night, too! My kitchen is a bit chaotic these days. I don't put all the canning stuff away because I would just be hauling it out again. So, I have stacks of jars and produce that remind me what's on my list and saves me negotiating the stairs. I do like having a lot of the supplies in the garage. Just a few steps to get out the door, and then it's smooth sailing to get jars. No food sits out there, but I think I may be taking the last of the canning things from the basement out to the garage just because it's so much easier. We'll see. Oh, and I love that "Mistress" part, too! lol

  4. Cranberry jalapeno jam sounds (and looks) really good, but I must admit I would love to imbibe some of that wonderful bread.

How I wish we could sit in the dining room and just share a visit over tea and treats! It would be so lovely!

On a side note, I looked out the front door mid morning and Mr and Mrs. Bluebird were in the

    1. Hi Shirley:
I'm thinking my legs finally got the memo. They actually prefer movement to sitting. Go figure! How wonderful that you saw your bluebird couple today. I haven't seen any for a while now, but I know they'll be back in the spring. Enjoy them, dear. They really bring happiness with them.
