Contemplating Fabrics...

I've been contemplating many different fabric choices for my bluebird wall hanging once I finish the embroidery. I originally thought about going with greys and browns. You know, really subtle, but my mind keeps bringing me back to this assortment.

I'm still not sure, and will choose a few other colorways to debut, but wanted to share these for your feedback.

Yesterday was #1 Son's birthday, and our daughter-in-love invited us to meet them at a favorite restaurant for lunch. We had a great time catching up with them, and I managed to recruit another diner to take our photograph. It's always nice to have something besides our memory to mark the event. This one was especially fun.

And so, we begin a new week. Needlework, canning, resting, and work on Friday evening. It's going to be a busy five days, friends. Hope you make it a great one, too. I'll see you again tomorrow!

  1. I like the small prints, they wouldn't take away from the design.
Great pic of your family. Happy Birthday to your son.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
If I do the little half square triangles, even the larger prints would offer some variety. Although I keep going back to this assortment, I'm not 100% sold on it yet. I'll pull more fabrics soon and see if I like something better. Thanks for the feedback, hon. We really did have fun Sunday, and I love this photo of the five of us. Thanks.

  2. Oh my, picking colors/patterns is the hardest! I always struggle with that. I do like those colors though. That's a lovely family picture!

    1. Hi Lois:
I agree! I love this fabric line and have enough to do a quilt for my vintage farmhouse bed, but I'm not 100% on using it for the wall hanging. I'll pull some more options and run them past my readers again. We'll see what I can come up with. Thanks, dear.

  3. If your mind is telling you that blues are the way to go, then I'd say go with it. Sometimes our subconscious tells us the right thing to do.
Wonderful family photo...so nice to see those happy smiles.

    1. Hi MA:
My heart is telling me to go blue. My mind doesn't want me taking away from the needlework. I'll keep pulling colors until I'm all-in on the choices. My subconscious is a little bi-polar. We'll see what wins out in the end. lol Thanks, dear. I love this photo and will likely get an enlargement framed. It's my computer screen saver right now.

  4. Sherryofcreateology: Your family picture is Priceless and will be a wonderful memory forever. Your stitchery is so soft and gorgeous. I like the colors you have selected. I just can’t quite picture in my mind the fabric surround. I am now 6 weeks healing and I cannot keep from using my right arm…even with the sling on. I am told it will be 6 months healing. WOW!

    1. Hi Sherry:
Thank you, dear. I do love the photo, too. I love how my needlework is turning out, but while I do love the fabric assortment, I want to be sure that it doesn't overpower my focal point. I'm going to create a wall hanging similar to the cardinal and robin pieces, with small borders of triangles, squares and strips. I'll probably do a "refresher" post soon to remind everyone what those looked like for comparison. I'm sure that six weeks feels like an eternity when you can't use your right arm. Oh, dear. Do take care so it heals well and good. Six months! You can do it! I'm praying for complete and speeding healing for you.

  5. Such a great family photo.
Great choice in the fabric. I'm just getting ready to start a quilt, I'm using a new one by
Laundry Basket Quilts, I love her fabric, it's blues and creams called Sewing Bird.
Here we are in a new week, had a lot of wind and rain. I have a few branches to pick
up tomorrow before I can mow.

    1. Hi Shirley:
Thank you, dear. I'm not familiar with that line (yet). I've been avoiding looking at any fabrics, as I have a whole roomful to sort and purge. I will look at that assortment, though! We got rain again today...of course it isn't in the forecast, so it's been a surprise. We're planning to mow in the next day or so, but our neighbor beat the weather today. She's really good at it. I should pay more attention to when she's out on her mower. Take care!
