Resting...

I worked Tuesday and because I still have a cold, I pretty much sacked out when we got back home. Sorry I missed a post for yesterday.

I spent part of the day at the computer, but my head really wasn't in it. I did prep a package to mail out one of the brooches that was purchased, but I mostly rested.

Andy brought more hickory nutshells down from the fall harvest, so hickory syrup will definitely be in my future. That's for another day though.

While im sitting here conserving energy, all the birds that flew south for the winter are making their way back north. I want to be ready for them, so im planning to scrub all the feeders this week. The temps will reach into the sixties, so it's the perfect time to get ready for their return.

Im also going to buy a couple new birdhouses for the bluebirds, and one or two wren houses. I think the Compass Barn could use one or two on the east wall. I want to have a nice welcome buffet for them when they arrive.

I'll be back at the computer today, too. I want to activate my sale by the weekend. Coffee and computer. See you later!

  1. I think resting and dreaming of / preparing for the warmer weather and return of our feathered friends is very good for your health 😊 Wishing you well as you pull together your sale in time for the weekend!

    1. Hi Lois-
Sale's ready to launch on Saturday. We've been welcoming birds back to Wisconsin. A friend said she's already seen robins in town! I'm convinced this crazy weather is responsible for me being sick. Warm temps, cold temps, up, down. It's nuts. I much prefer the birds (and warmer weather for local wildlife)
      Hugs,
      xoxo

  2. It's ok that you didn't post, you need rest.
I have not seen many birds yet, only Canadian Geese & a few Common Mergansers in the river.
Maybe by next week when it gets warmer, we will se some Pelicans & other Ducks.
I love to watch them, so interesting.

    1. Hi Marilyn-
I guess I must have needed a break. Gosh. I've written posts nearly every day over all these years, and my record for the first months of this year has been dismal. How wonderful that you've got the pelicans and ducks so close. The Marsh is such a magical place. I love seeing the pelicans on my trips over toward you. I haven't seen a merganser in a long time. ❤️
Have a great time birdwatching, dear. Hugs,
      xoxo

  3. I hope the birdies don't rush their way north because it will be a pretty cold outlook for them just yet. The river outside our building is open so at least the geese and ducks will have somewhere to go but I don't know how much they'll find to eat.
    Hope you soon feel better!!

    1. Hi MA-
They can all rest here for a while. Wisconsin is home to the Horicon Marsh. When I was on the Wisconsin Conservation Congress a crew decades ago, it was recognized as a "Wetland of International Importance" because of all the migratory birds that stopped there, as well as all the other wildlife the area supports. I was proud to be a part of that effort. They'll head back to their Canadian summer grounds soon enough, but we'll watch over them here until they take flight again. Thanks for the healing wishes. Im improved, but not 100% yet. Im working on it, though.
      Hugs, xoxo

  4. The Grackles and Starlings have been here for a good week (by the hundreds).
I feed year round so there is always a lot of activity.

    1. Hi Shirley-
I haven't seen them here yet, but I heard red wing blackbirds this morning, so I'm sure they're not far behind. I'll probably feed through the seasons this year, just in case they need a little extra love.
      Hugs,
