| Brynwood Needleworks Design - "Summer Serenade - Bluebirds" |
The quilting is done. The binding is applied, and the hanging sleeve has been sewn to the back. I have to add my label before it's technically complete, but I'm calling is finished now. To say I'm proud of this piece is an understatement.
I started this piece in September 2024, so "Summer Serenade" was fifteen months in the making. Granted, I didn't work on it every single day. Even so, there are hundreds of actual needlework hours in the bluebirds themselves.
I found this beautiful fabric that was a near-perfect color match for the Blackbird Designs Blueberry Crumb Cake line. It's from Moda™ and called Bluebird's Nest by Kansas Troubles Quilters. The selvage has bluebird shapes for the color key, and there is a verse on it, too. It says "As long as there are bluebirds, there will be miracles." I love that. I didn't see my first live bluebird until we moved to the farmhouse, and they delight us every spring when they return.

I really like the final colors and fabric choices that I ended up with here. Everything about it makes me happy.

I ordered the stickers of these bluebird embroideries already, so soon I'll offer up the set of the three seasons that are already done...robins, cardinals, and bluebirds. Next year, I'll add my autumn piece featuring American goldfinches.
For now, I'm going to enjoy this finish, and will be hanging all three in our bedroom where I can see them every day. Once they're installed, I'll take another photograph and so you can see them all together.

It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe colors you picked are perfect.
You should be proud, that's intense stitching.
Cant wait to all 3 together.
Stay warm!
Marilyn
Thank you, dear Marilyn. You've been along for the entire ride. I so appreciate your friendship. I shared photos of all three in the BW group on Facebook, but I'll share them here tomorrow.
DeleteYou stay warm, too. I'm watching it snow outside, as we get ready to head to Milwaukee. ugh
Hugs,
xoxo

All I can say is wow! You definitely outdid yourself with this one and it's easy to see it was a labour of love. I wonder if that wonderful verse from the selvage could be appliqued on the back??
ReplyDeleteHi MA:
DeleteThanks so very much. I appreciated and often considered your creative input. I LOVE the idea of adding the selvage verse to the back, and will definitely do that! I'll share photos when I complete the label, too.
Big hugs,
xoxo

Oh, Donna! It. Is. Amazing! Magnificent is truly the right word! It must be an absolutely wonderful arrangement in your bedroom, and will be absolutely perfect when the Goldfinches join them! True works of art!
ReplyDeleteHi Lois:
DeleteThank you so much, honey! I put them up in our bedroom this morning, and then shared images on Facebook. I'll share those pics here tomorrow. I'm looking forward to creating the goldfinches, but I'm also contemplating a series of bird pairs that will be round, shadow-box framed after that. Nuthatches, bluejays, black-crowned chickadees, house sparrows, and more. I hope you'll follow along as they come into being.
Big hugs,
xoxo

ReplyDeleteHi Bren:
DeleteThat means so much to me, coming from talented YOU! One of the items on my 2026 list is to create your sampler design quilt. It's been in the queue to a long time, but I NEED to make it with all your gorgeous fabrics! (More than one line!) Thank you, dear.
Big hugs to you and Emmie.
