Bum Thumb...

I injured myself yesterday. Cleaning a sharp knife, I made the tactical error of running my cloth down the sharp side of the blade. I know. Rookie error. gaaahhh! I was cutting meat to prep for pressure canning, so I stopped long enough to clean the wound, assess that it wasn't bad enough to require stitches, bandage it, and then slip a kitchen glove over it so I could continue the task.

I rechecked it when the job was done, and it was already starting the healing process. Thankfully, it wasn't a bad wound. Only bad enough that it will be a few days before I can work at the needlework frame again.

So, I guess I'll be bottling hickory syrup tomorrow, and pressure canning the meat before I'll be working on my bluebirds again. It could be worse. At least I won't be losing my thumb. (Bad joke. lol)

    1. Hi Marilyn:
As I write this on Wednesday evening, it's already doing much better. It wasn't as deep as I feared, and less tender than I expected. I'll be stitching again in no time!

  2. "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get" ... we all make those "rookie" mistakes when we get focused on our tasks. Unfortunately, it doesn't make them any less painful. Glad it wasn't any worse!

    1. Hi Lois:
You're so right. It hurt like the dickens the first few hours, but it's actually doing really well now. After cleaning it out and keeping it bandaged until after I finished working yesterday, I covered it with liquid bandage. Stung like all get-out, but it's really helped close up the wound. I'm glad it wasn't worse, too!

    1. Hi MA:
Same here! Funny how a little cut can sideline all the plans I had. The good thing is that Handsome offers to handle meal cleanup so I don't have to hand wash anything. I grab a towel and dry. I should be back to needle dancing by the weekend.

    1. Hi Sherry:
You're right, girlfriend. After the initial adrenaline rush, it started to throb. I asked Handsome to put the bandaids on tighter than usual so it would counteract some of that soreness. I'm much better today though. I'll be stitching again in no time.
