I spent the whole day in the kitchen yesterday! It all started when I made two four quart bags of caramel corn for my dad, who adores the stuff.

From there (as long as the oven was already on - and there were four overripe bananas screaming for my attention) I baked banana bread.

Last, but certainly not least, as long as I have goodies going to Dad, I thought he might enjoy homemade Hickory Hill Farm hickory syrup. I headed to the basement and brought up all the bottles I had, and proceeded to brew up a batch of that golden goodness from the farm.

By the end of the day, I was pleasantly, plum tuckered out; the farmhouse smelled like a candy factory, and Handsome made our delicious dinner. It was a day of tasty accomplishments, for sure.

I'm not doing anything quite so grandiose today. I may even put my feet up for a while - at least while I enjoy my morning coffee.

Brynwood Needleworks - Busy Hands, Happy Heart - Making Covid-19 Masks

 

My Thursday began at 6 am. I had to get Tag to the vet's office for a "socially distanced" handoff for his dental appointment. Once I got back home, I made breakfast for Handsome and me, and left him to do cleanup. I went upstairs to the studio and started sewing.

I stopped at 3 to go get my boy. He came through with flying colors, and although I feared an extraction might be in his future, he still has all the teeth he left with. He was a little vacant the rest of the night, but he's fine and I'm relieved. 

I went back to the studio after he was settled, and by the end of the day added 47 (50, minus the three I used for a live demo on Wednesday) to the stack. I've now made 123 total masks. 

 

The masks shown above will be packaged up today. I have some already spoken for going to family, and then I'll continue production for the nursing home, plus a small HVAC company where a friend works. 

After dinner, Handsome and I made another batch of that killer caramel corn (see how to make it on my "Recipes" link in the top menu bar), and was finally putting on my pjs at midnight. I slept like a log.

I'm baking the bread I didn't bake yesterday, and then I'll be preparing more fabric for another batch of masks. I'll see what else I can write about for Saturday, but I'll be keeping a runny tally of mask production in my side bar. You won't have trouble finding it. wink 

 

I'm really needing my morning coffee today, so you'll please excuse me. I'll see you again tomorrow.

A New Recipe To Share...

Brynwood Needleworks - Tasty Caramel Corn

If you follow Brynwood or me on Facebook, you already know that I took a little tumble on Thursday. I had Tag out in our side field, and I just tripped and fell flat on my face. Thankfully, the field is covered with all the mowed wild plants from last fall, so it wasn't hard (like the driveway is). Even so, I jammed my shoulder; twisted my back; and strained my wrist...and landed face first. Even so, I'm grateful that I have no bruises (except to my pride), and no long-lasting side effects. 

Before bed last night, I took a pair of pain killers, and within minutes, I was sound asleep. I didn't stir until Handsome came upstairs an woke me up at 10:30 am!! I'm pretty sure he wasn't carrying a mirror to see if I was still breathing, but I'm sure he was worried. So, before I even got out of bed, the morning was nearly gone!

The weather was beautiful, so I spent some time outside, cleaning up around the apple tree. Boy, those birds made a mess over the winter! I've taken all the feeders down for the season, and I'll wait to deep clean all the feeders until I can use the garden hose and a safe cleaner. Then, I can leave them outside to completely dry in the sun. 

 

Oh! The bluebirds have already returned to the farm this season!!! I cleaned out all the bluebird houses, and put out the welcome mats. I'll be setting up the feeders for the hummingbirds and orioles over the weekend next. They'll be back before long, too.

 

Tag lay nearby as I raked, acting as my supervisor. He looked very regal and "nine-ish", until he puppy rolled in the grass. He enjoyed being outside in the sunshine as much as we did.

 

When we all came back inside, Handsome asked me to make caramel corn (again). I made a batch earlier in the week, but used too much popcorn, so it wasn't very sweet. I made just the right amount of all the ingredients this time, so it was exactly as it should be!

 

Our granddaughters made this first, while hanging out together at home, and then their mama posted pictures on Facebook. While everyone else was asking if she shipped, this Grandma asked for the recipe, and they immediately obliged. I even had everything I needed in the pantry, so there was no need to forage for ingredients at the store.
