Grandma Would Be Proud...

I finished my cotton yarn granny square cardigan and I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Blogger is being temperamental, so the best photo I can share with you is a small format one. As promised, I'm modeling it just for you! (If I can coax Blogger into accepting a larger size image, I'll sure add it for you.)

Remember, I made this using my grandma's sweater, and a photo of my mum wearing one that Grandma made for her years ago. I think my grandma would be proud that her pieces inspired me to make one of my own. She'd probably ask me what took me so long, though!

If you're interested in how I constructed the cardigan, please let me know. Perhaps I can share the instructions in a separate post if enough of you are interested. It really wasn't difficult at all.

Amost Finished...

I'm working on it. I promise!

I'm crocheting a pretty, variegated edge on the cardi front pieces right now. When I'm finished with that, I'll crochet the cuffs and all the way around the edge of the cardigan in the cream colored yarn.

The next time you see it, I'll be wearing it. See? I'm almost finished! Hooooo, Haaaa!

Third Time A Charm...

After taking out my joins twice, I decided to go online to find a technique I'd be happy with. I found a fabulous tutorial at Attic 24 for joining granny squares (here). It's the crochet method, as opposed to the sewn method, and I like the way these joins look a whole lot more.

I started over again and now I'm chugging right along. I've actually completed the body of the cardigan...
adding the two front shoulder pieces. (I took these photos while I still had good light yesterday late afternoon.) Since I took the pictures, I've added the back yoke area and am nearly finished with one sleeve. Soooo close! I can see that I'll be finished soon.

Derailed...

I had so many plans for the past two days, but you know how it goes. You run an errand or two, come back home, start on something, get distracted, start on something else, and the next thing you know, it's time to make dinner and another day is in the archives.

That's how my last couple of days have gone. I've managed to finish...nothin'. zip. zero. nada.
I have spent what seems like forever joining two rows of granny squares to start assembling my cardigan. It's looking good, but it's not any further down the road than that. Am I a little frustrated? Uh, huh. It's ok. You know me. Never one to stay down, I'll pull up my socks (figuratively, of course. It's already too hot for socks!) and just keep after it. I can already tell it's going to be a neat sweater.
You might like to visit The Daily Corgi today, too. Fezzik would have been one year old today, and Laurie has put together a little memorial for him. It's meant to be happy, like he was, so please don't be sad. He made us laugh every day and I hope today's images make you smile at his memory.

How Fortuitous...

You may remember that I've been working to construct a granny square crochet cardigan. Grandma had given me one of the sweaters she'd made for herself (the red and green one I told you about here), and I was using that as a guide.

Mum told me that Grandma had made a crocheted cardigan for her, too. I remembered that she had one, but I was so happy when I came across a photo of my beautiful mother wearing her sweater from years ago. (Doesn't she look like a 1970's model in this picture?)

What made me so happy about finding this picture (aside from the fact that I could share it with you) is that I prefer the style of this cardigan to the one Grandma used to wear. Gram loved high collars in Wisconsin, but I don't really need a sweater with a high collar in Florida - even if it is made with cotton yarn.

So, I've changed the design just a bit on mine and will use Mum's as the pattern instead. Such good fortune to have come across Mum's picture! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now - and it's shining on a beautiful, pastel crocheted cardigan. I'm hoping to finish it this week. Fingers crossed!
