Brynwood Needleworks - Kirby Crossbody - Nevermore

I completed a custom Kirby Crossbody bag yesterday. Although I usually create more than one Kirby at a time, I decided that this one needed to be "fussy cut" to optimize the fabric design, so it would have my undivided attention.

I knew that the recipient was especially fond of the crow, so that was my starting point. I also did the back in a single piece (rather than the usual three), to optimize the fabric design there, as well. (Sorry, I forgot to take a photo of the back.)

I found the perfect fabric to use on the front pocket linings (and the lining on the interior pocket, too). I think the colors coordinated perfectly with the exterior fabric.

I was able to use more of the main fabric inside for the double pockets. The lining for the main compartment of this bag is a neutral canvas for a bit more durability. My client will be able to enjoy this bag for a long time.

All I have left to do is spray the exterior fabric with Scotchgard™ to protect it from any light soil. Of course, this bag, being made entirely of fabric, can be easily washed and pressed should it require it.

I'm very happy with the final bag, and I know that I'll be making more handbags and wallets using this fabric in the near future. Of course, I'll share them here first (or on Instagram!), and then list them in my shop. 

Today, I'm meeting friends for lunch in Oshkosh and then doing a little yard work with Handsome. I want to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been having. Get out there and soak up a little sunshine today. I'll see you tomorrow.

Just Like Goldilocks...

I was so happy with my finished aqua-colored quilt - and the setting for my outdoor photograph, that I decided to give it a separate post.

The finished quilt measures approximately 48" x 38". It's not too big, and not too small. Just like Goldilocks..."It's just right".

I'll show you what I'm starting on next week. I think you might like to try it, too.

The Search For A Finished Project...

It wasn't easy finding a finished project. I had to enlist the talents of an intrepid corgi, and even then, it took a while. You see, it happened like this...

The dashing young corgi cut quite a line as I approached him in his element. I inquired as to the cost of his services and he looked casually over this shoulder to inform me that he "worked for kibble". We quickly agreed to his terms, and shook on it. In no time, he was on the job and employing the services of his trusted mentor, the well-known Retriever, Miss Kessler. 

Of course, Miss K wanted to start by canvassing the yard. She always finds what she's looking for there, but something was bothering the corgi. You see, he'd been in the yard for a while and hadn't seen anything that looked like one of my finished projects.

Nevertheless, how could he possibly inform his mentor that she was on a cold trail? He decided to take a new approach after the yard yielded no results (or rabbits to chase).

In his best corgi stealth mode, he ambled into the side yard to see if he could glean information from any of the talkative humans. They never even knew he was there - his parabolic ears capturing every word...every nuance. Still, there was no lead.

Finally, he relied on his instincts and figured that the object of his search must be misplaced. He turned his attention indoors. Eureka! There, tossed carelessly on a mattress was the most recent completed quilt, looking finished but forgotten.

He rushed to me to tell me he'd located the piece and that I should take a picture immediately. Having found it after dark, the image was less than stellar. I promised him that I would take a much better photograph of the aqua quilt tomorrow to share with all of you.

Tag would love to say goodbye for now, but he's very busy enjoying his payment for a job well-done. After he's finished counting his kibble (and teasing Miss Kessler for being of no assistance whatsoever) he'll be off to take a well-deserved nap.

I guess this is the official end of Silent Fridays. Thank you all for being so supportive as I worked my way through a difficult time. Happy Days are here again. 

This Is Not A Dog Quilt...

I sure had a chuckle when I read the comments you gals left for me when you read my last post. Carol left a note that finished with, "I ALMOST expect a finished project!!" Well, Carol. You really motivated me to keep after it yesterday. It's not finished, but this is what I accomplished.

When I went online last night, I saw a post Amy Smart had written on her blog, Diary of a Quilter. She actually did a great tutorial for a "Simple Stripes Quilt", and that became my starting point. Of course, I changed the measurements and chose a different arrangement for my fabric assortment, but you can see the resemblance to her quilt.

 

I also put together twenty blocks, instead of the sixteen called for in Amy's pattern. Each of my blocks was 10" square (smaller than hers) when I began my assembly, so my quilt measures approximately 38" wide by 48 1/2" long.

Handsome said it will be just the right size for Kessie to curl up on when I finish putting it all together. Yea. Right. Gotta love his sense of humor.

Time To Start Another Quilt...

I think it's about time I started another sewing project, don't you? I've pulled out an assortment of cool aqua fabrics, with one from Michael Miller called "Lava Flowers" as my focal fabric. (Of course, it's the one on top.)

I'm thinking a sweet little quilt is in order. Nothing too large. Just a little something for pulling onto my lap during these cooler evenings. I'm still contemplating the design, but I'll start cutting tomorrow and see where my muse takes me.
