I worked on my farmhouse quilt again yesterday. I got everything quilted, and just have to add the binding, which I'll do this evening. It's a great "sit and watch TV with Handsome" project.

Farmhouse Quilt - Front and Back Detail

I chose a linen-look cotton fabric for the back. This will be used as a winter curtain, so I didn't want to choose a fabric that would obviously sun-fade. This will just look more "worn" after it's been used.

For most of the quilting, I followed the lines, making them a little uneven, just like the barn board lines in the print. Then, I went back to the interior and sewed over the lettering, leaves, and around the main motifs (chickens, tractor, barn, etc.). I purposely wasn't exact with those either. I wanted them to look less-than-perfect.

Here's the entire front, including the borders. I'll be binding it in the same black/white floral fabric, which I'll cut out later today. I originally wrote about this fabric HERE, in case you'd like to know more about it.

Brynwood Needleworks - Cork Fabric Combinations

After an appointment this morning, I'll be coming back to my studio to work on a commission. I have a new eggplant purple cork now, so I'll make my newest style Grab & Go crossbody bags in both print/solid combinations shown above. One will go to its new home, and the other will be available in my online shop. I'll show you what they look like finished tomorrow.

Another Quick Project Under My Needle...

Farmhouse Quilt

I've had this panel since my friend, Jacque A. and I spent the day shopping last fall. The panel has been in service all summer, blocking late day sun in the pantry, but I decided that I needed to actually do something with it beside hanging it the panel on a rod.

I was in the studio a couple of days ago, pulling fabrics I'll soon list in my online shop, and found the perfect pieces for a border on the front, and for backing to turn it into a completed hanging. I thought the black and white floral was just the right pattern for the borders, and I have a darker version of the  linen-look cotton seen on the farm panel.

The fabrics are sandwiched with batting, pinned, and waiting as I contemplate how I want to quilt it. I'll have it finished by the end of the week...binding and all.

When I showed this on my Brynwood Needleworks Facebook page, a number of friends asked for the information on the panel, so I'm sharing it with you, too. It's from Deb Strain's "Homegrown" line from Moda Fabrics. Like I said, I purchased it last fall, so you may have to check Etsy or Ebay to find it. (HERE'S a shop I found on Etsy that has more than one panel available)

Today, I'll be helping Handsome paint the inside of his new drum room here at the farm. Our younger son, who is a talented carpenter, built it for him, and as soon as the painting is finished, we'll shop carpet and shelves. The temps are cooler now, so it's perfect painting weather.

We hope to have it move-in ready in another week or so, which is good, because his fall rehearsal schedule has already begun. It'll be nice for him to have a place to set up and practice, plus a climate controlled area for his instruments.

Once the painting is finished, I'll be back in the studio. I have orders to fill, and this small project for myself to finish. I love having busy days. Such a feeling of accomplishment at the end of a day, and I sleep like a log. Life is good.

 

Embracing The Season...

I made this Patchwork Pumpkins Table Runner (from Shabby Fabrics) last year,

and I couldn't wait to put it back on our table this season. I love it that much!

Last week, my friend Beula (from the Paneras group) gifted me with some of her

wonderful treasures. She loved the little "Memories of Wisconsin" wool book I made

and decided that I should have some of her trinkets to use in future wool books.

 Beula is in her 90's and a vital, creative woman in her own right, so you can

imagine my surprise and delight that she should choose me to receive some of her

treasures. I was speechless to find that she also had given me two Russian amber 

and silver bracelets, a matching amber necklace, six little worry dolls from  

Guatemala, an agatized coral pendant, and even a genuine Indian arrowhead!

(You'll definitely see some of these items again when I make my next wool book.)

I wanted to give her something to show my appreciation, so I made another fall

pumpkin mug mat just for her. Then, I added a trio of acorn candles and a few

other little items selected with her in mind. I gave them to her at Paneras last night.

When I got home, I found that I'd received an envelope in the mail from my

friend, Jacque of The Doodles of My Mind blog. Remember, Jacque's pup

is a sweet, old chocolate Labrador named Tag E. Butt. We love him a lot!

I opened the envelope to find special selvages for my Selvage Quilt project. I

was so excited to see them! First, Deb Strain is one of my fave fabric designers.

And, look at the color registers on the edge...ACORNS!!!   Thank you, Jacque! You knew I would love them and you were so right. I think I'll have to do one set of blocks that will be devoted solely to acorns, with your selvages as the focal point. I know I'll have to leave more than the skinny 1/4" extra pattern, too. I may leave them as wide as you've cut them!   Goodness, Fall is my favorite time of year (north or south), and these are a few of the things that helped me get in the spirit yesterday. I'm blessed, indeed.

Perfect For The Wanderlust...

 UPDATE:
I wanted to share a photo of my new quilt installed in the Flying Cloud.
The color scheme fits perfectly with the upholstery on the cushions.

 In case you're interested, I used the small polka dots fabric from Deb Strain's 

Cherish Nature line for the curves. The balance of the fabrics (including the 

coffee cup fabric) were from Deb Strain's Bistro line from Moda. These lines

are at least four years old, and were favorites from my fabric stash.

 I finished "Coffee Drunk"!

I really didn't want another UFO sitting in the studio. I wanted to

finish it in time for our Tuesday evening guild meeting, and I got

close. The only thing that wasn't done was applying the binding.

 I took photos prior to the binding going on (it matches

the sashing between the blocks), because I wanted you

to be able to see how "drunk" the pattern looks! lol

Quilt back

 The really cool thing about this quilt is that you can only 

control the design on the front. The back becomes completely

random, but it doesn't look that way on mine (too much).

Handsome really likes this one. He said that we should use it

as a really cool table quilt in the Flying Cloud. Brilliant idea!

It will fit right in with our decor in the camper, and it's a perfect

use for my completed class quilt. I'll update this post later today

by taking a picture of the quilt installed in the Airstream.

Now to tackle the next project calling to me...
