Brynwood Needleworks - Chocolate Bunnies Table Runner

 

I made this table runner in 2014. (You can read the final post on the process HERE.) I enjoyed every second of making it. 

 

I hunted down the fabrics so I could make it in the same fabrics that were used in the designer's pattern; piece, appliqued, and then machine quilted it. Binding is always my favorite part, because it means it's completely finished.

This runner signals the spring season, and bunnies and eggs have also come to represent an aspect of Easter. While there are children hunting eggs and candies, all Christians take time to thank God for the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ. Easter is a season of celebration. By His Grace, our sins are washed away, and we are saved. 

The pattern is "Chocolate Bunnies Table Topper" by Margot Languedoc of The Pattern Basket. I must make this again.

 

Chocolate Bunnies and Eggs...

 YAY!!!

I finished the Chocolate Bunnies Table Topper yesterday.

 It's on the dining room table, along with those matching eggs I 

made here and a large yard bunny that lives here at Brynwood.

 I really enjoyed this project and it's the perfect spring touch with Easter
just around the corner. The topper is approximately 38" long and 18" wide.
If I were to make it again for this table, I'd probably add a few more 2 1/2"
strips in the center section to make it longer, but I am happy with it this way.

 I did a cross-hatch pattern on each end, stitched around each individual 

egg, swirled around the brown of the chocolate bunnies and then did a 

"bunny" meander on the balance of the topper. I decided to add the same 

blue fabric for the binding that I chose to use on the back. I even played 

around with the display after I finished taking the first photographs.

 So which one do you like better?

 Do you prefer the topper displayed with the big bunny or

the candle bowl with the eggs? I think each one has its appeal.

I'm back to playing again, so there will be more

 creative goodness coming from the studio very soon.

Don't Know What I'm Waitin' For...

 The table topper is finished. I have lots of choices for thread colors.

 Choosing the backing was a piece of cake.

 It's all ready and waiting for me to quilt it, but I can't seem

to motivate myself to actually do the work. I'm hesitating on the

quilting design...meander? stitch-in-the-ditch? specific pattern?

What to do? What to do?

I'm going to leave it on the worktable until I decide. I just know 

I'll have it finished in plenty of time to celebrate Spring and Easter.

David's memorial service is this afternoon. 

I freely admit that my mind is on other things these days.

I'll be back tomorrow with a new focus.

Today, God's Grace will carry us.

Scrambled or Sunny Side Up?...

First, I'm going to admit that I didn't work on my "Chocolate Bunnies

Table Topper" yesterday. Nope. Just didn't have that kind of concentration.

So, I played with eggs instead. Really. I'm going to tell you all about it!

I've had these little papier mache gems for over a year. I have moved

 them from drawer to cabinet because I couldn't decide what I wanted

 to do with them...until yesterday. I had one of those proverbial  "aha"

moments and decided to do something about it on the spot.

I got out my big bottle of PVA Glue from my book-making days

 (and because I didn't have any ModPodge), fabrics from my table

runner project, a brush and those eggs. I decided to cover them.

I put some of the glue into a little dish, cut the fabrics into scraps

and laid out a piece of freezer paper, shiny-side-up. I applied glue to

the surface of the eggs and then laid the fabric scraps on them to 

completely cover the eggs. When a piece of fabric was applied, I covered

it with more glue. Once the egg was completely covered, I set it aside

on the wax paper to let it dry. *PVA glue dries clear. It was that easy!

I'll set the finished table runner on our dining room table, and scatter

 the eggs on it with more Easter-themed touches. Won't they be fun?

(I might even have to go out and find a few more!)

Turtle & Pansies Finish...

 Indeed. I played with wool this past weekend rather than start my

other on-deck project. I didn't finish the bunnies yet either because

I spent the entire day yesterday loafing and watching the big game.

 Block Two of my Wooly Critters Sampler quilt is finished. 

I love the little turtle nestled among the pansies.

So, I'll try to finish the "Chocolate Bunnies Table Topper"today.

Escaping To Bunnyville...

I managed a little time in the studio yesterday, so I worked on

my Chocolate Bunnies Table Topper. I'm ready for stitching now.

 I chose this fabric from the Moda™ Paris Flea Market line for the

inserts where the applique' elements are stitched. I thought it was

just the right touch as the backdrop for the bunnies and colorful eggs.

 I'll be sitting down to hand stitch the applique's and then I'll do

the machine quilting on the table runner myself. Hippity Hoppity.

 Another sweet design to make me smile. Just what the doctor ordered.

 Thank you to everyone who sent a message of condolence on our friend,

David's passing. David's family, Handsome and I all appreciate your kindness.

Sunkissed Chocolate Bunnies...

 Happy Monday, all y'all! Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Ours was filled with music and friends...and very little studio time.

Remember the last time I wrote about Margot's pattern "Chocolate 

Bunnies Table Topper"? (Here's the link to refresh your memory.)

I shared what I thought would be my fabric selections for the table

runner, but a comment from my friend, Renee changed my mind.

 Renee was kind enough to tell me that the fabric line used in Margot's 

pattern was Moda's "Sunkissed"...and that she loved all the fabrics. I

wrote back to her to let her know how much I appreciated the information.

 I scurried over to Etsy, hoping that someone might still have charm packs, fat

 eighths or some assortment that would work for me. First items that came up

 were charm packs. SCORE! When I found out the line was discontinued, I

ordered them on the spot. They were in my hot, little hands the same week.

 I set the pattern and fabrics aside until last Saturday when Ifinally started 

cutting, arranging and planning the table runner project. The only thing I

decided to switch out was the grey in the assortment. I preferred a soft blue, so

I pulled two fabrics from my stash to substitute. I'll use the greys elsewhere.

Now I'll have happy, "sunkissed" bunnies when this table runner is finished.

As for the fabrics I originally chose? Well, they're on the shelf for now. I'm

sure I'll be making a second table runner as a gift, and they'll be perfect for that

 one. Ok. I'll make this one first. We'll worry about a second one another time!

I Love Chocolate Bunnies...

 All these sweet, cheerful fabrics are gathered together in my studio. 

Goodness, they're a scrumptious assortment, don't you think?
