Baby, It's Cold Outside...

This Year's Christmas Trees

It's going to be darned cold today, but I'll be cozy inside, baking cookies for the exchange party tomorrow. The wind picked up late last night, and it was even snowing a bit. Neither dogs nor cats wanted anything to do with going out.

I ran to the store yesterday and got eighty pounds of bird seed, so I know I'll be able to keep our flying friends nourished so they can stay warm. I'd love to think they're all sheltered in the rafters of the Compass Barn, but I suspect most have sought shelter in the woods above the farmhouse when they're not eating.

Once the cookies are done, I'll be stitching. Anything to stay busy - and indoors. As I write this, it's 11º, but with the 17 mph wind, it feels like -7º. Warm socks and sweaters are definitely in order around here.

Stay safe, my friends.

We woke up to 0 degrees yesterday.
I like the snow, but not the cold, it's too early this year.
Baking is the best thing to do on such a cold day.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
I figured smaller trees would be easier for me to store away after Handsome left for Florida. He recently told me he's decided to stay home this year. (YAY!) Even, so, we both love these smaller trees, and they suit us fine for our quieter celebration. I'm not a fan of the cold either. I'm glad that at least the sun was out for a while. Got all my cookies baked, and we had a simple Wisconsin meal...Italian sausages and baked beans. After a day in the kitchen, it's all I was up for. Handsome is feeling better, which is a blessing, too.
      Stay warm, my friend.

  2. I love your tree display! It will be a good deal warmer today here in the Texas hillcountry.

    1. Hi Mary:
Thanks, dear. Perfect size for us this year, and they look pretty as you come up the drive, too. It's nearly 10 pm Saturday as I write this, and it's -4º outside (with the 13 mph wind ourt of the NW, it "feels like" -20º)! It's nuts...and dangerous. Praying everyone stays safe, and that our local critters have found warm places out of the wind.

  3. Brrrr indeed. This morning one glance out the window showed it snowing heavily....next glance, it had stopped and sun was shining. It's going to be one of those days I guess, but I'm spending it indoors working on my quilted hug.

    1. Hi MA:
-20º with the wind chill right now. I'd prefer to stay home tomorrow, but I've made a commitment to go. My sister is down from MN, and I'd like to see her, too. I don't think I'll stay long this time. The cookie exchange begins at 3 and goes to 5:30 (after dark). I'll be wearing my warm togs for sure! Hope you had a good day quilting, dear.

  4. Those trees are so pretty. And what's up with this wind. It's constant. I don't ever remember so
much wind for so long. But it is better than snow. 19* here today and Thursday 48*. Someone
    is off her meds.

    1. Hi Shirley:
Thanks, dear. We do like them. The one in the middle has battery-powered fairy lights, so not only are they a different color, they die quickly, too. I may have to get a third tree like the other two. We've got wind here, too. It's ugly and making it even colder than it would be otherwise. I'm seriously over it! I agree about the meds. We may need to take up a collection!
      Stay Warm!
