Goodness From The Kitchen...

Yesterday, Di and I pulled up an online recipe for Homemade Hawaiian Sweet Rolls for our project. Neither of us had made them before, so we jumped in to make these for dinner. Our goal was to turn these into "funeral sandwiches", usually served in church basements by a group of ladies for the "after funeral meal". It was actually Diana's Birthday, so we joked about how we probably could have chosen different fare in light of her celebration, but we went with this anyway.

If you're interested in making your own, they aren't difficult at all. We got our recipe HERE. They were delicious, especially when filled with the usual ham and swiss cheese. The recipe for the sandwiches came from HERE.

We've been having fun in the kitchen, first making a tasty casserole we'd seen on Instagram that called for rotisserie chicken. Instead I used the turkey that came off the carcass when I made broth on Monday. It was delicious. We also made homemade macaroni and cheese using Emeril Lagasse's recipe HERE. Actually, my recipe called for shell pasta, but this is basically all the same ingredients. Sorry I didn't take photos for you. Too busy eating, I guess. lol

I'm not sure what we're going to do today. Di's managed to catch a cold this trip. Hearty chicken soup might be the best thing for what ails her. I can always make a nice batch of biscuits as a side dish. We'll have her feeling better in no time.

See you tomorrow.

Another Extended Birthday Surprise!...

A package arrived on Monday from my dear Vermont friend, Denise! I was so surprised to receive it, and even more surprised when I opened it.

Inside was another cookbook. This one is "Cooking from Quilt Country" by Marcia Adams. It's filled with lots of photographs of Amish and Mennonite kitchens and people. There are many basic, healthy recipes, too. Between the cookbook from Marrianne in New Zealand, and this cookbook from Denise, I'm going to have many new, tasty dishes created here in the farmhouse.

As if the book weren't enough, I also received this adorable Corgi candle, but there was an even more interesting thing about this particular candle...

As it burns down, it will reveal a solid .925 sterling silver treasure within the wax! I was tickled when I saw the candle, but this one contains an extra gift. How fun is that?

Thank you, dear Denise, from your grateful and spoiled friend in Wisconsin. I love both generous gifts, and can't wait to see what's hidden in the wax!

Big hugs from my heart to yours,

Tuesdays With Tag - Good Day, Sunshine...

Hi, Everybody!

This week's post is gonna be brief. Aunt Di is here, and I really want to spend as much time with her as I can. She chirps at me a lot and says stuff like, "Hi, there, Sweetheart!" I keep lookin' around to see who she's talkin' to!

The weather is gettin' colder in Wisconsin, but the sun still shines, and we love those days. I even get to run off leash for a little bit so I can fetch a dummy or two. It's one of my favorite pastimes! Bella and Carly fetch every single mornin', so I don't feel so left out when I get to fetch, too.

I don't get to run free much anymore, 'cuz I run but don't know when to stop. Mom said she's tired of tryin' to run after me to bring me back home, so I'm sentenced to havin' to drag a leash around now. It's okay. When I do get away, I kinda forget which way is home and that's kind of scary (for all of us). Then, I have to wait until Mom or Dad finds me. Not anyone's idea of a good time. Don't feel sorry for me. It's okay. Really.

This was an outtake from our last photo session. The girls were completely uncooperative. Not handsome and attentive like me! It wasn't long after this picture that there was a total breakdown in behavior. The three of us each ran in a different direction with Dad laughin' and Mom walkin' back toward the house. We can't be perfect every day!

Well, there's a lot goin' on around here with our guest. I need to close for this week, and see if there isn't a treat or two bein' offered. I'm positive I hear treats bein' offered. Can't linger any longer. If you'll excuse me, now.

I'll see you again in seven. 'til then...
"Been There, Chewed That!"
