Oh, Steve! While you're tucked in bed contemplating UFOs, I'll be in my studio - snowed in - and sewing. I'll have something wonderful to share with all my online friends on Monday! Stay safe and warm!

Selvage Time...
![]() |
Brynwood Needleworks - Selvages
Quilt week is behind me and I have commissions that need my attention. I'm doing one thing differently this year. I'm going to set aside one day a week to work on "my" projects. I don't intend to be caught short on time for my own projects again, and I think this will help avoid that.
I've chosen Monday as my personal play day each week. Of course, I already have those UFOs that I'll be able to tackle right away.

I have an overfull basket of selvages, thanks to my own projects and the generosity and kind hearts of my sewing friends. My plan is to make a queen size quilt using these colorful pieces.
I already have 41 - 8 1/2" blocks done, and after a little calculating, I need 79 more before I can begin my quilt assembly.

It's so much fun to make these blocks. As I sort, iron and sew, I remember projects I've made using my own selvages, but I also get to learn more about my friends' tastes as I come across selvages that they shared with me.
This quilt will be a cherished addition to my body of work because of all the friendships that helped create it. This is one of the ongoing projects I'll be joyfully building on upcoming Mondays.

Fabulous Flour Sacks...

Brynwood Needleworks - Flour Sack Fabrics
I recently saw a fabulous quilt created using flour sacks, cut into quilt blocks. They were colorful and perfect for a quilt in a 1930s theme. I immediately thought about my most recent gift from a good blog friend, Marydon.

She sent a huge box of flour sack fabrics to me, to do with as I wish. I wish to make a flour sack fabric quilt.

Over the course of the next twelve months, I'm going to find time to make two, traditional block flour sack quilts from these fabrics. Aren't they wonderful?

I need to decide which block pattern(s) I'll use, but I promise to keep you posted when I start this one.
Remember, I've promised to finish those UFOs first. In fact, I'm already working on one of them. I'll show you pictures of that one tomorrow.

Chore Day...
Tag really needed to be groomed yesterday. He was such a fuzzy mess and it's that time of year when he sheds like crazy. On top of that, he was hairing up the house like nobody's business.
If your bathtub is overflowing with water, the first thing you should do is turn off the water, right? So, before I cleaned the house, it seemed logical that I should groom my Corgi first.
I spent about an hour on the boy (he looks fabulous now, by the way), and then I tackled the house I've been neglecting while I fell ill. Both the beast and the house are sparkling now!
In case you're wondering about the photographs I chose for today's post...I dream that some day I'll have a studio large enough to allow me to have a piece of furniture covered in a vintage (or made-by-me) quilt.
I think about such things when I clean house. Something this girly would never work in our main living spaces, but it would be totally, perfectly, wonderfully appropriate for my dream studio.
House is cleaned, so today, I'll be playing in the studio again. I'm going to try to make a dent in those UFOs. I'll let you know how it goes...while I dream of quilted furniture.

Time To Tackle Some UFOs...

Waiting to become a table runner.
Some are newer to the stack than others, but they're still counted among the "unfinished".

I'm not quite sure how these things got away from me, but I know I need to turn them into "finished objects" soon.

Yes. More Brynwood Wallets!
They need to be finished so I can have a clear conscience when I start new ones. I have a whole list of new projects filling my head, but they'll just have to wait a little longer. My short term goal is to have all these UFOs finished by the end of next week. I'll let you know how it goes.
