Oh, What A Night!...

Wisconsin Conservation Congress State Convention Presentation

Second only to marrying Handsome, last night was a highlight of my life. I was inducted into the Wisconsin Conservation Congress Hall of Fame for my service as an elected delegate from 1989-1996, and the work I did during those years.

I was notified of this honor about three weeks ago, and was invited, with my husband, to attend the final banquet of the 85th Annual State Convention to received my award. Of course, we went.

Chairman Larry Bonde Finishing My Introduction

I was overwhelmed to reach the stage, turn around, and see the entire room on their feet as they applauded me!

Speaking Before The Congress Delegation

Of course, I wrote an acceptance speech. The last time I addressed the delegation was as their state secretary in 1996.

Female Delegates To The Wisconsin Conservation Congress

The year I left the WCC, the lady to the right of me in the back row had just been elected by her county. Since then, all these other ladies were elected in their respective counties. To date, I'm the only woman in eighty five years to have held one of the top three positions on the congress.

I was the first woman elected in my county; first woman to become a county chairman; first woman to be elected as an executive councillor; and first woman elected as the congress state secretary. I also held multiple committee chairmanships, and traveled the state - speaking to clubs, organizations and state boards and legislators - representing the congress and my county.

During my speech, I told these ladies that I guess I'm their Congress "grandma". lol I requested that we all take a photo together, and I was honored to hug each delegate, personally, after our pictures were taken.

Wisconsin Conservation Congress Master Plaque

I'm standing with the current Wisconsin Conservation Congress chairman, my friend, Larry Bonde. We first served together in our respective counties (I, in Fond du Lac county, and Larry, in Manitowoc county) in the 1990's.

The large plaque I'm holding is the master plaque that hangs in the main Department of Natural Resources offices in Madison, Wisconsin. Believe me when I tell you that the names engraved before mine were conservation giants in our fair state, and I'm humbled for my name to appear with theirs.

My Personal Plaque From The Wisconsin Conservation Congress

This is my personal plaque that we'll proudly hang in the farmhouse. You've seen my favorite quote on the bottom of my blog for the past ten years. These words were embraced by me in 1989 when I drove through the gates of the Wildlife Prairie Park in Peoria, Illinois (to teach needlework classes). They were attributed to the park founder, Bill Rutherford, and were carved above the gates.
I am humbled and honored to have been recognized last night by a group that I proudly served. I'll remember this evening and how I felt for the rest of my life. Oh, what a night!

PS-Thank you to Handsome for being my official photographer during the proceedings. I'm so grateful for your love and support all these years, and I'm so glad you were there to celebrate with me.

Jann's Finished Blossom...

Photo of "Gazania" courtesy of Jann
 Isn't it just magnificent?
Jann emailed this photograph of her blossom yesterday so that
I could show you what it looked like now that it's completed.

In case you missed it, click here to go to my original post about Jann.

She also told me she hoped to complete the quilting on "Wildacres II:
Coneflowers" yesterday afternoon and would do the facing last evening.
(That's the one she's holding in her hands in the original post. )
We all knew that she'd have these done in time for her guild's show which
will also be held in February, and I know that everyone is going to love them!

I do have a correction...Jann is not a member of the Peace River Guild.
(Their loss!) She belongs to Sharing Quilters in Bradenton, FL; and the
Friendship Knot and Sarasota Modern Quilt Guilds, both in Sarasota, FL.

Thanks for sharing this picture and your updates, Jann.
I just know that your beautiful blooms will be admired.
Today is the first day of our quilt show. I'll have lots of photographs tomorrow.
You have all been so patient, so I'll share my excitement with you now.

"Over The River"
was awarded a First Place Ribbon in its class
(and was held for Best Track Mounted Quilting category)
"Princeton Plates"
was awarded a Second Place Ribbon in its class
and also won
Best Track Mounted Work in Show
"Martinique Plates"
was awarded Second Place Ribbon in its class
"Flutterby"
was awarded a Second Place Ribbon in its class
"The Pink Panther"
was awarded an Honorable Mention Ribbon in its class

EVERY quilt I entered earned a ribbon! I'm still pinching myself!

Competition was fierce, and the quilt that won "Best In Show" really deserved it.
I was so honored to be considered for that ribbon, but it went where it belonged.
I'll photograph it today to show you tomorrow.

Today is Day One of the Show. I'll be there from 9am to 5 pm
at the Convention Center on Hwy. 41 in Punta Gorda.
Stop in if you're in the neighborhood!

A Wonderful Surprise Today...

After five days of waking up to the agony of even more hog damage in our front yard, I was surprised to turn on my computer first thing this morning to find that I have received my first blogging award! I've received a "Makes My Heart Smile" Blog Award! (Hats and horns, and doing the Happy Dance!)

Linda, of White Linen - Lavender Field and America The Beautiful-1776 blog sites, awarded me this honor through her America The Beautiful site. Linda is a truly gifted blogger, and I enjoy reading her words of inspiration, and viewing her beautiful images whenever I visit her blogs. I highly recommend that you visit both sites (linked through My Favorite Blogs in my left column) and tell her that you've stopped by to visit.

Now, if you know me, you know I'm a rule follower. Here are the rules for this ♥ Award~~~
1. The winner may put the logo on their blog (just right click on the image and copy, then paste to your blog post.)
2. Put a link to the person who sent you the award
3. Nominate 10 blogs
4. Put a link to their blogs
5. Leave a message for your nominees

Ten Blogs That Make Me Smile ~~~in no particular order:

4. Alicia @ Posie Gets Cozy
5. Christine @ A Work In Progress
6. Loreen @ Loreen's Place
7. Amanda @ Soule Mama
8. Maryboys @ Vintage Patina
9. Laura @ 52 Flea
and last, but certainly not least
10. Dawn @ The Feathered Nest

To my readers - In this post, you can click on each blogger's blog title to visit their site. In the future, you can always link to them from My Favorite Blogs to visit them again.

To the seasoned bloggers to whom I am giving this award - You are, in my humble opinion, some of the best bloggers in Blogland, creating wonderful and inspirational sites to visit...and you all bring smiles to my face.

When you visit my blog, please take the blog award button, just copy and paste it to your blog. You deserve it! Pass it on to your friends and please link back to Brynwood Needleworks.

Thanks again, Linda! I'll try to live up to your opinion of me each and every time I add to my site.
