Have you ever seen Chloe Giordano's embroidery? These are two of her books currently in my personal library. I'm completely smitten with her work, and love perusing through them books for inspiration...and a little instruction, too. I heartily subscribe to the "One is never too old to learn something new" philosophy. In addition, when I can't sit down to stitch, I love to dream about my next project(s). Chloe's books are a huge assist in that regard.
I've had this book longer than the other, and was inspired to create small ornaments that I gifted to a few friends a couple years ago. This hardcover book is 175 pages "short", and is filled with images, patterns, ideas, and instruction. I love looking through it, even if I'm not in the mood to read.
This book is newer to my collection. It's a softcover book, and has 191 pages, and is actually an updated version of the other book. She's added new insights and three new patterns. It's brimming with her sweet illustrations and needlework pieces.
Chloe Giordano is a British artist whose first interest was as an illustrator. She studied in England prior to discovering an interest in textile arts. From there, her attention turned to needlework as a way to add dimension and texture to her illustrations. Thus she is able to bring her drawings to life through needle and thread.
If you are interested in her books or her work, I'd suggest the updated version (this second book) as a way to learn more about thread painting, developing a color palette, and so much more. She starts the book by sharing her favorite tools and supplies, and moves from there into the actual techniques, subjects, and patterns. She's an excellent resource and instructor. You won't be disappointed.
The "party" starts today with my echocardiogram. Next week will be an appointment to find out the results and get clearance from our cardiologist for the surgery. I have multiple other appointments next week, too...lab work, pre-op consult, and pre-op physical therapy (three times a week for six weeks, following the surgery!). Here's keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.
In the meantime, I'm going to bury my nose in this book and keep my mind occupied. Our younger granddaughter also celebrates her high school graduation this weekend, so we'll be attending to cheer her accomplishments. We're really looking forward to that!
I'll be back tomorrow to show you my latest completion. Hint: This month's artist trading cards! See you then.
You had me with that rabbit stitchery on the cover! I had to stop and look her up...her work is magnificent! I enjoyed perusing pictures of her gorgeous work! Thank you for sharing. Hmmm. Maybe we'll be seeing a book in your future...DL's Needlepainted Birds. 😊 Praying your doctor's heart concerns turn out to be a total non-issue... then, full steam ahead to happy knees!
ReplyDeleteHi Lois:
DeleteI agree. Her work is incredible. Wouldn't a DL book of my birds be fun? Once I complete the fourth, I may just be ready to take a break to write one! Who knows? I must have been keyed up leading to this appointment. I had a neck ache from Thursday night until after I got home from the echo. I took two Tylenol and slept until 9 pm! Nothing else accomplished for the day. I needed to decompress more. Hoping I "pass" for my surgery.
Thanks so much, dear.

Those books look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love animals, we have some baby bunnies running around here.
Good luck with all of your appointments,
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn:
DeleteI keep seeing some awesome bunny cross stitch patterns. Perhaps you'll be adding some to your collection? Thank you, dear. I'll be glad when they're all behind me.

Oh no - now you have enabled my covet button!
ReplyDeleteWill be hoping for easy testing all throughout and that everything will then be a 'go'.
Hi MA:
DeleteSo sorry, girlfriend. (not sorry. lol) Thank you. I got all keyed up before this first one, so I hope I can relax a little more now that this one's behind me.

There is just so much amazing talent out there.
ReplyDeleteI usually just happen upon it on Instagram.
I started with Crewel and Needlepoint way back in the 80's.
The humidity and rain is starting to get annoying here.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Shirley
Hi Shirley:
DeleteYou're so right, my friend. I see a lot on IG, too. Between there and Pinterest, it would be easy to spend the entire day on the Internet. sigh I did a lot of crewel in the '80s, too, but have always been drawn to it. I think the goldwork reminds me of it in some ways. Sorry about the rain adn humidity. Without central air here, that would make me a little nuts, too. I hope you have a lovely weekend, too, dear.
xoxo
