Do you remember the song about "dancing like no one is watching"? I told a friend once (and now I'm telling you) that I loved taking my boom box (I know. I'm dating myself. It's okay.) and my dogs, Bannor, Bryn and Kyra, out into our 40 acre training field. I'd start up the music, call in the dogs, and we'd all dance and be silly together. I only did this when Handsome wasn't home for fear he'd have me committed. (Not really, but I wanted to be safe.)
I know that silly woman is always alive in me, ready to bust a move on a moment's notice. I like to be the crazy aunt or the funny grandma. I want to be remembered for the fun things I've done with them. One of my older nephews has frequently told me that some of his favorite childhood memories were times spent with me. His sister has said the same thing, and it warms my heart whenever I hear it.
The important thing is that you don't
hurt anyone by taking time to do something wonderfully silly for
yourself. It renews your spirit. It lightens a regular day. It brings a
smile to your face and joy to your soul. Go on. Promise yourself to find that inner child again - or if you know where she is, let her out this week. Celebrate you!
