Band Concert...

Handsome - Pre-Concert

Well, I didn't make it to his concert last night, but I did get a photograph of him before he left for the venue. This was his second-to-last concert of the season, and then he'll be off until this fall (or later, if he decides to go to Florida to play for part of the winter).

He told me his last concert is next week, and I promised I'll be there, come hell or high water. I don't want to miss him playing on the kit which he'll be doing again for that one. He's playing in a separate Dixieland band which will be out front and center that night. I'll definitely be there as his biggest fan.

Me? I stayed home with my knee on ice. I called the doctor's office yesterday and talked with them about the swelling. His nurse reminded me that it's only three weeks. sigh I also got a refill of two prescriptions, and told that I can alternate Tylenol with the other painkiller as long as I stay under 3,000 mgs. I'm way under that, but I'm not going to be silly about not taking it either - which I've been trying not to do. She reminded me it's a good thing to stay ahead of the pain, and I'm not driving anyway so, there's that.

Physical therapy again this morning, and I'll also discuss the swelling with Jenna to see how we can best achieve our goals and minimize the discomfort afterward. As a special treat, I'm going somewhere special with Handsome today, too. I'll tell you about that tomorrow. I'll let you know how PT goes, too. Gotta run!

    1. Hi Dear Marilyn:
Nothing will keep me from his last concert of the season. I'll be there if I have to crawl all the way. Thanks. Therapy was actually wonderful today. Mostly pampered this knee. Jenna's the best! Will do.

  2. I'm sorry you missed the concert but I think you made the right choice (and I suspect your Handsome was relieved as well). I hope your PT person will have good suggestions to alleviate some of the pain and swelling. I would also, if you can, discuss with her what exercises you can do prior to having the other knee done that will help strengthen the area before the surgery. I've heard that it's a good thing to do and will help with after-surgery recovery. Just a thought!

    1. Hi MA:
I was pretty upset that I couldn't go, but I'll definitely see the next one! Jenna was wonderful today. Mostly pampered my knee with some lovely massage tricks that had me feeling great when I left. I'm not doing that second knee anytime soon (unless the joint fails). I'm going to treat it like what I've always heard about childbirth. Spread the kids out so you forget the pain from one to the next. lol I was doing the stretching and bending prior to this surgery because I'd heard that getting as much motion beforehand was good for recovery after. Handsome and I were talking about his knee replacement years ago. Neither of us remember him having nearly this much "grief". I guess every knee (maybe even from one of mine to the next) is different. sigh Lucky me, right? Thanks for the suggestion.

  3. Sherryofcreateology: I know you made the right decision. I pray you will be able to attend Handsome’s concert next week. The swelling makes the pain hurt worse. Thank goodness you have the ice machine. Definitely take your pain meds as they will help you keep your worrying mind off the pain. You are strong and you won’t get addicted. Prayers for your Healing my friend.

    1. Hi Sherry:
I think so, too, even though I was mightily disappointed. You're right about the swelling. ugh I'm on top of it with the pain meds now, and will definitely be icing in between. As much as the meds make me queasy, I can't imagine I'd be taking them one second longer than necessary. I know when I smoked a hundred years ago, I quit cold-turkey when I'd had enough and I've never looked back. Stopping these will be a cakewalk compared to that. I love that you continue to pray for me, my friend.
      Hugs,

  4. Awww, I'm sorry you had to miss the concert, but I echo the previous comments...wise choice. Prayerfully next week will yield much better results. But...patience, patience, patience. Now, that's a hard muscle to exercise! 😉 I'm hoping your time at PT today is good and gives you a sense of peace about the swelling... and that you have an amazing "special treat" with Handsome 😊❤️...have a lovely weekend!

    1. Hi Lois:
Me, too, but you're right. It was for the best. Thanks for reminding me to be patient. I need to keep that in the forefront of my mind. Slow and easy, and I'll get there. PT was more TLC than PT today. I told Jenna what was going on and she took the session in a completely different direction. Rode the bike for 5 minutes, did my stretches in the "cage" (an apparatus with lots of bars so people can choose which ones they want to hang on to), and then she treated me to healing hands on sore leg places, followed by ice. I felt wonderful (albeit still swollen) when I left. She told me to take it easy this weekend. Take my meds and rest. I'm going to follow her instructions to the T. Hope you have a great weekend, too, dear.

  5. I was really worried about you going to the concert, mostly uneven ground and fifty other things I would be concerned with. I'm thinking I hope she uses the walker for extra stability.
Okay, so you know that I tend to hover.
And keep taking the pain meds, staying ahead of the pain will help so much with the healing.
I'm not one for any type of meds but this isn't forever.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. You're such a good friend, Shirley. I'd planned on using the walker had I gone for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Last thing I want to do is fall. I appreciate that you hover. Really. I'm on top of the pain with my meds now, and got a refill of the anti inflammatory that was almost gone. I'm with you. I don't like the meds either, but they're helping for now. Ice machine is also my best friend. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, too, dear.
